In plain language: what Zync keeps, what for, and what you can ask for. Last updated: November 6, 2026.
This is a translation provided for convenience. The Portuguese version is the legally binding one.
1. Who we are
Zync is a communication app for communities, currently in closed beta. The person responsible for processing your data (the controller, under Brazil’s General Data Protection Law — LGPD, Law 13,709/2018) is Elian, the individual responsible for the Zync project. Contact for any privacy matter, including as data protection officer (DPO): contato@usezync.com.
2. Data we process
| Data | Examples | Where it comes from |
|---|---|---|
| Account | Email, username, display name, bio, profile picture, password (only its Argon2id hash) and date of birth (not shown on your profile) | You, at sign-up and in your profile |
| Sessions | IP address, browser/system (user agent), access dates | Created when you sign in |
| Content | Messages, reactions, attachments and images, servers, channels and invites you create | You, when using the app |
| Social | Friendships, requests, blocks, server memberships and roles | You and other people |
| App usage | What you have read, mentions, notifications, muted servers | Created as you use the app |
| Safety and moderation | Reports, bans, time outs and the moderation log | You, moderators and the anti-spam system |
| Voice and streams | A record of each screen share (who streamed, in which channel, start and end, why it ended, viewer limit and peak) and stream reports. Audio and video are not recorded. | Created when you use voice |
We do not ask for ID documents, phone numbers, location or sensitive data. Uploaded photos have their location metadata (EXIF/GPS) removed. Voice and screen shares pass through our media server in real time only: nothing is recorded. The app has no ads and no trackers, and this site uses no cookies.
3. What we use it for (and the legal basis)
- Providing the service — creating your account, delivering messages and files, showing presence and syncing read state. Basis: performance of a contract (LGPD art. 7, V).
- Security — keeping sessions, limiting sign-in attempts, fighting spam and abuse. Basis: legitimate interest (art. 7, IX).
- Moderation — handling reports (including stream reports) and enforcing server rules and these terms. Basis: legitimate interest and performance of a contract.
- Protecting children and teenagers — using the date of birth to enforce the minimum account age and restrict screen shares to people 18+, as required by Brazil’s ECA Digital (Law 15,211/2025). Basis: legal obligation (art. 7, II) and the best interest of children and teenagers (art. 14).
- Legal obligations — keeping access records and complying with court orders. Basis: legal obligation (art. 7, II).
We do not sell your data and do not use it for advertising.
4. Who we share it with
- Other people on Zync see what you post where they have access (servers, channels and DMs), plus your public profile.
- Hosting: data is stored on a dedicated server rented from an infrastructure provider, which has no access to the content for its own purposes. The voice and video server (LiveKit) runs on that same server, operated by us.
- Authorities, only under a legal obligation or court order.
When generating link previews, the Zync server (not your computer) fetches the posted address, so the destination site does not see your IP.
5. How long we keep it
- Account data and content: for as long as the account exists. Messages you delete stop being shown immediately.
- Sessions (IP, browser and access dates): for as long as the account exists, to detect unauthorized access and answer legal requests (Brazil’s Internet Civil Framework, Law 12,965/2014).
- Backups: daily copies kept for 14 days and then discarded.
- When you delete your account, we erase or anonymize your data, except what the law requires us to keep.
6. Your rights
Under the LGPD (art. 18) you can ask for: confirmation that we process your data, access to it, correction, anonymization or deletion, portability (a copy of your data), information about sharing and review of decisions. You can do much of this in the app itself (edit your profile, delete messages, leave servers). For the rest — including exporting or deleting your account — write to contato@usezync.com from your account’s email address. We reply within 15 days. You can also file a complaint with Brazil’s data protection authority, ANPD (gov.br/anpd).
7. Security
We use HTTPS everywhere, Argon2id passwords, encrypted sessions, server-side permission checks and temporary links for files. Details in Security. If an incident could put you at risk, we will notify you and the ANPD.
8. Minors
Zync is for people aged 13 and over. Between 13 and 18, use requires the consent of parents or guardians, and sharing or watching screen shares is not allowed. Age comes from the date of birth declared at sign-up; it can only be set once and cannot be changed in the app. If you know of an account belonging to a child under 13, write to contato@usezync.com and we will remove it.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Zync evolves. The date at the top shows the latest version; important changes will be announced in the app.
